Sports Update: Training for Sports Med–(no one injured)

Last week Mrs. Florence and Ms. Beisel attended a sports medicine clinic down at Shouldice Athletic Park. Two of our Sports Medicine 35 students also attended - Connor and Anastasia.

The clinic had several certified athletic therapists, sport medicine physicians, and primary and advanced care paramedics (with an ambulance) and students and teachers from Mount Royal University's Athletic Therapy Program.

We were learning about head and neck injuries, activating emergency action plans and football equipment removal.

Artist Showcase

Our Leadership in the Arts (LITA) group had their first meeting of the year this week and our first Lunchbox Showcase will take place on September 28th at lunch in the cafe area. Please come check it out and support Diefenbaker’s talented community of artists.

If you are interested in joining the LITA team, please come to our next meeting on Thursday, September 21st at lunch in the art room (12).

The Visual Arts students recently had the opportunity to go on a walking gallery tour of the Masters Gallery, Newzones, Paul Kuhn and Trepanier Baer.

It was a great day where the students observed and learned about the work of many notable artists. It started with Michael Corner, Joe Fafard, The Group of Seven and Jean-Paul Riopelle on 4th street. They continued on to see Mark Holliday and Anda Kubis on 11th avenue. Then they completed their tour on 8th street by viewing the art of Ron Moppett and John Hall.

The students were good ambassadors of Diefenbaker and a productive time was had by all.

The trip is becoming a tradition that we look forward to offering again and again.
