Blood Donation Event
Congratulations to the stellar Bio 30 students who made their first blood donation on Friday after school. The National Blood Inventory currently has a critical need for A and O type blood and over 4.5 million transfusions are needed by patients across North America each year. Students each donated approximately 450mL of whole blood, which can provide patients with red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. These students will be able to continue donating for years to come. Way to go, Dief Chiefs!
Are you interested in becoming a blood donor? Learn more here: https://www.blood.ca/en/blood/am-i-eligible-donate-blood. Contact Ms. Allison at laallison@cbe.ab.ca if you are 17 or older and are interested in donating next semester.
Artist Spotlight
Irene L. is a visual artist in Grade 12 here at John G Diefenbaker. She began her art journey at a very young age and has worked consistently to improve her artistic creativity and skills. Irene’s creative works are inspired by other visual/fine arts, digital art on social media and animations. Irene has continued with her artistic passion because the process of creating art pieces gives her a sense of freedom, and enables her to express herself without any limitations. Colourful mediums like acrylic paint, watercolour and pencil crayons are often used in her artworks in order to make use of her knowledge of colour theory. Irene tends to start her creative process by drawing rough thumbnail sketches in order to figure out the final composition of the piece. She then moves on to a more detailed copy. After completing the second, more detailed draft, Irene will then move on to the final copy of her artwork in which she incorporates colours and even more intricate details. During the planning phase, she tends to allow experimentation lead the process while expressing her creative voice through symbolism. Irene plans on pursuing a career in the art industry. ~ Written by Raymond P.
