Artist Spotlight:
Hamna M is a Grade 10 student at Diefenbaker, who creates art with paint like gouache and acrylic. Her work focuses on semi-realism, but she aspires to improve her techniques in illustrating people and creating a more stylized body of work. Hamna’s art depicts very precise and neat statements on canvas, often skillfully capturing nature and the beauty in the details. Her illustrations are well thought-out and designed. They are appealing and catch your eye. We look forward to seeing her work again in the coming years.

Girls Field Hockey Event
Our Junior and Senior Girls Field Hockey team had the opportunity to attend the Pan American cup for Indoor Field Hockey. We were able to watch three matches - including Team Canada, Team Argentina, Team Trinidad & Tobago and Team USA. After the opening ceremonies, the girls were able to participate in an on court skills session with Field Hockey Alberta!
It was a great way to kick off our season and view field hockey at the highest level!
News from GSA
Our GSA is very excited to be able to share a project we began working on back in September. After continuing to see anti-2SLGBTQIA+ legislation and book bans sweep the USA, we wanted to help make queer representation more accessible with our own school library. After months of work, we are proud to be presenting a new display of books containing 2SLGBTQIA+ representation. Given recent anti trans policies here in Alberta this project is more important to us than ever!
We want to give a HUGE thank you to Youth Central Calgary for providing a grant; without which this project could not be possible. We also want to thank Ms. Richards our school librarian and Ms. L’Hirondelle, our GSA teacher sponsor.
This project is sponsored by The Calgary Youth Foundation, a program of Youth Central.
