JGD School Council

JGD School Council AGM will be Tuesday, September 17.

Please consider a role on the Council.  We are looking to fill the Chair (or Vice Chair) position or have a couple people share and be Co-Chairs.  The Chair is responsible for running the meeting, be a liaison with the school Admin and work with the Council Executive Team.  Time commitment would be 3-4 hours a month, most of which is made up of the meeting itself.  You’ll work with an amazing group of people!

For more information, please email us at jgdschoolcouncil@gmail.com

Attention all Grade 12 Students

Please ensure you have transferred any important documents/information from your EDUCBE account as it will be deleted on June 28.  After this date you will no longer have access to this email account.

Lifetouch Ceremony Stage Photos

The commencement image with Mr. Arrell is a printed 5x7 and will be mailed directly to all students who had a Prestige session taken with Lifetouch. Graduates that did not have a Prestige session will have their 5x7's sent to our Operations Centre in Edmonton. They will have to call the Lifetouch office to access those images. Students should expect to see these photos in 3-4 weeks, maybe quicker depending on Canada Post. Lifetouch asks students not to call their office within the first few weeks, as they won't be able to help them until processing is completed by the lab.

After the mailout, all images can be accessed online at Lifetouch Special Events. A proof sheet with online access codes for each individual is also mailed. Then if families wish, they can order additional copies though the site.

Photos from the Reception Photo Booth are available at this link: JGD Photo Booth Reception photos.  Please note: Download your photos since the company will DELETE THE PHOTOS ON JUNE 24.  There are extra souvenir Graduation Ceremony Programs available in the Main Office.

Grade 12 Upgrading

Congratulations to all of our Grade 12s who are graduating this year!

If you wish to upgrade, repeat or take that one course you may need for your diploma, we have listed three of the most common ways to do this in the Fall 2024.

  • CBe-learn opens registration for September (full semester courses online) on July 1. CBe-learn
  • Chinook Learning opens registration June 20 (semester courses in the class room). Chinook Learning Services
  • Vista Virtual School opens registration July 2 (on line courses). Vista Virtual School

Classes fill up fast so you may want to complete your registrations as soon as possible once the platforms open.

School Fees

Please ensure that any outstanding school fees are paid by logging into PowerSchool or by contacting the Business Office.

Yearbook Insert Pick Up

Yearbook inserts have arrived! The insert contains an additional 16 pages of photos including spring sports, the STEM trip, culture day and graduation. For students who ordered a yearbook, an insert can be collected at the front office until Thursday, June 27th.

Textbook Return

All textbooks must be returned to the Library if students do not need them for their Final/Diploma Exams. Please note that after Diploma Exams, students must return all their textbooks, otherwise a fee will be automatically charged to their account. All textbooks are barcoded with a unique number and students are asked to return the exact same copy signed out to them. Returning somebody else’s copy will not clear their account.

Library Learning Commons

All library books are now due. Please return your books to the Library Learning Commons.

Diploma Exam Rewrites

If you are a student who missed or would like to rewrite your diploma exam in the August sitting, please register for the exam in MyPass by July 3. The writing centre is CLS Alternative site (2452) (Chinook Learning Services). Indicate Mark Lewis as the approval contact name. If students are not registered by that date, they may not be able to write. For more information, please refer to the Chinook Learning Services Diploma Exam site.

Please note that any student that was supposed to write in June but did not write will have to pay the rewrite fee when registering; this fee will be refunded later in the summer by Alberta Education.

Note | Any students taking summer school courses outside of CBE will not be eligible to write at the CLS Alternative site.

Important Information for Grade 12 students planning to attend Post Secondary 2024-2025

Students attending post secondary for Fall 2024-2025 may apply for Student Loans and the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship at the following website:  www.studentaid.alberta.ca.  Applications for Student Loans open some time in June, so it is advised to keep checking the website as they do not provide a specific date for when this happens.  The Alexander Scholarship application opens in early August for students attending post secondary in the Fall of 2024.  If you have had, or have an academic average in five courses at each grade level (or even one grade level) above 75%, you may be considered for as much as $2500. Please check out the eligibility criteria for the Rutherford Scholarship at the website cited above.  Money is held in trust indefinitely for students who qualify for the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship, so if you take a gap year or many years before going to post secondary, you can still apply during the summer prior to your September start for monies. Please contact Mrs. MacDonald if you have any questions, or phone Student Aid Alberta at 1-855-606-2096 (they are very helpful).

Artist Spotlight

Whoa! I wonder who made this amazing piece?!  Tahliza A, that’s who!  Tahliza is a Grade 12 student at JGD who is part of the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Band, playing the saxophone.  She is also a avid painter who enjoys painting detailed scenes in school and during her free time.  Over the past three years, Tahliza has been a devoted saxophonist in the Symphonic Band.  She enjoys the challenges presented by difficult pieces, whether it's the improvisation and syncopated rhythms of jazz or the precision and discipline of a classical repertoire in symphonic settings.  Tahliza has performed at many concerts and small gigs with the Jazz Band and Symphonic Band.  Some of her highlights when it comes to performances include AIBF, going to Edmonton to perform and our spring and winter concerts.  Tahliza has also been involved in the Visual Arts.  Her love for painting is a vibrant expression of her artistic personality.  Using mediums like oil pastels and acrylic paint, Tahliza creates captivating landscapes and detailed portraits.  With bold strokes and vivid colors, she brings her scenes to life, capturing mood and atmosphere with skillful precision.
