Grad Weekly Update
Now that Term 3 reporting is complete, Grade 12s and families are reminded to check their progress in PowerSchool and MyPass to ensure that they are on track for graduation. An up-to-date Grad List is posted on the Grad Bulletin Board in the school. Students with questions should see their Counsellor in Student Services. Also, a reminder to students that as they turn 18, they become the sole contact email in PowerSchool; students should go the Main Office to sign a consent form that allows their parents /guardians access to information regarding Graduation and any fees.
Work on the Graduation Formal Reception is in full swing! The theme for this year’s event is Gala and the Student Grad Committee is hard at work on bringing it to life in the décor! This week, all Grade 12 students are expected to complete the survey on D2L to decide on the menu choices for their Grad Reception! Stay tuned next week for results!
Ceremony preparations are also reaching a critical point, and students are reminded to attend every TA to have their Grad gown height submitted for the order to be completed.
Ticket Information
To be eligible for any Grad event tickets, students must be on the Grad List and have paid all Grad Fees by April 26.
Formal Ceremony – Starting on May 13, each graduate will be able to pick up a maximum of 3 complimentary tickets for the ceremony, based on the number of guests they expect to attend.
Graduating students do not need a ticket for the ceremony. These are tickets for family members to attend. Due to the size of our Graduating Class, we are not able to offer more than 3 tickets to each Grad, however; there will be an opportunity to purchase additional tickets starting May 22.
In order to receive tickets for the ceremony, students must have paid their Grad Fees and be on the Grad List. Friday, April 26 is the Grad Fee deadline.
Tickets will not be held for those who have not paid their fees.
Please note - any tickets not picked up by May 16 will become available for purchase for families who require additional tickets. Please watch for reminders and updates in D2L and through Messenger and the school website.
Formal Reception - all guests, including Grads, must have a ticket for the reception purchased at a cost of $50. Tickets for the reception will be ordered through Google Forms between April 29 and May 10.
Thanks to the 200 people who attended the online Grad Information Night last week. For those who were unable to attend, the PowerPoint that was shared, is available on the Diefenbaker website, and for students on the D2L.

Artist Spotlight
Abbygail K. is a Grade 11 musician in Diefenbaker's Symphonic Band, where she plays the clarinet. She also plays the alto sax in the Jazz Band. In Grade 10, Abby won a Jazz Award at the Fine Arts Showcase. She strives to always play with style, emphasizing different parts of the music to get a different sound or emotion from a piece. Abby will often volunteer for solos in Jazz Band, as a way to showcase more of her personal playing skills. She has been to various festivals, like the Vic Lewis Band Festival in Canmore. Abby has also played solos at the Winter and Spring Concerts for school. At home, she practises many pieces chosen by her Band Teacher. When playing guitar, Abby chooses songs to which she enjoys listening. She experiments and repeatedly plays tunes she's come up with, until she either gets bored or shows one of her siblings. Abby has been playing music all through her school years. She bought a Ukulele in Grade 5, began playing clarinet in Grade 6, and then the Alto Saxophone in Grade 9. Music is a way for Abby to connect with people and feel accomplished. She has made many friends through music and has family members who play guitar. Music is a skill Abby enjoys developing; learning music is a challenge she finds very fun. Sometimes, she looks back on pieces that were a struggle and then realizes that they were very simple. Abby listens to music frequently, and she believes if others can do it, so can she. Her plans for the future are to accompany her sister, who likes to sing, and to buy more instruments to learn how to play. Overall, Abby is a very friendly and passionate person, with many more musical endeavours in her future!
