Student Off-Campus Behaviour Expectations
With the arrival of spring and nicer weather we see many more students venturing off campus at lunch and during spares. Diefenbaker Staff only provide supervision on campus. Those students choosing to go to local parks, McDonalds, Superstore, the skate park, or other locations are doing so with the understanding that these areas are not supervised by Diefenbaker Staff. Students are expected to follow the CBE Student Code of Conduct at all times during the instructional day whether they are on campus or not. Students will be held responsible for inappropriate behaviour regardless of location during the instructional day.
Congratulations to our Grade 12 Honour Roll Recipients
One hundred and sixty- two students received an academic average of 80% or higher which constitutes 42% of our grade 12 population! The Honour Roll is calculated based upon all courses taken during the school year at Diefenbaker and does not include courses taken off campus. It is also a weighted average which means, for example, a CTS module would not carry the same weight as a five-credit course.
Congratulations, once again on your accomplishment!
Mr. Westin’s 10-2 ELA Class – Walking with a Knowledge Keeper
On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Mr. Westin’s ELA 10-2 class had the great honour and opportunity of going on a Land-Based Learning Walking Trip to Nose Hill Park with Blackfoot Knowledge Keeper William Singer III.
The students learned about a wide range of Indigenous and non-Indigenous plants such as Maanikapi (Wild Bergamot), Ki’piaapi (Prairie Crocus), Naatosipisa tsssaisski (Common Dandelion), Aahsowa (Wild Licorice) and Aohtoksooki (Yarrow). Students were able to sample many of the edible plants and berries that grow on the prairie grasslands of Nose Hill as well as how to identify some of these plants in the wild.
William Singer III has a wealth of knowledge about the land which he shared with hands-on experiential learning and storytelling. It was an amazing opportunity, and we would like to thank Our Indigenous Learning Leader Tracee Thompson and Beverly Kinley from the Indigenous Education Team for making this happen!

Artist Spotlight
The Visual Arts Students were celebrated last week with the year-end Student Art Show on Wednesday night. It was well attended and there were many proud artists present. It was a great way to show off all the hard work and dedication that our students have put in throughout the year. Congratulations on a beautiful show!
Last Thursday several students hosted an Art Market in the cafeteria after school to raise money that will be donated to the Alberta Children’s Hospital. There were many different vendors and activities to be enjoyed. Mr. Arrell even joined in the fun to pin a tie on … well himself!?
Sara B is a Grade 12 student in Band, Art Advanced, and Film, who enjoys playing a variety of games, listening to music on CDs, and hanging out with friends. Some of the media she works with to express her talent include acrylic, gouache paint, and digital art. Her inspiration to pursue an education in the Arts comes from her older sisters getting her interested, both of whom were in Band, and one who also attended a post secondary Art institute. Sara has been playing in Band for six years, as well as being in a Jazz Band for four years. Throughout this time, she has learned how to play the tenor and baritone saxophones while being in Symphonic and Jazz Band, and played the flute and clarinet in Grades 6 and 7.
As anyone who’s picked up a paintbrush knows, creating art can be very frustrating at times, but Sara still appreciates the process, enjoys the final product, and loves to see when it’s turning out how she wants it to. Displaying the things in life she loves is one of the many joys of art for Sara, which includes cats and landscapes, sharing the beauty she sees in nature. She’s been accepted into the Alberta University of the Arts and wishes to make a career out of her artistic talent. As for Music, in the future she plans on learning the guitar to stay in touch with her musical abilities.
