Student Off-Campus Behaviour Expectations

With the arrival of spring and nicer weather we see many more students venturing off campus at lunch and during spares. Diefenbaker Staff only provide supervision on campus. Those students choosing to go to local parks, McDonald's, Superstore, the skate park, or other locations are doing so with the understanding that these areas are not supervised by Diefenbaker Staff.  Students are expected to follow the CBE Student Code of Conduct at all times during the instructional day whether they are on campus or not.  Students will be held responsible for inappropriate behaviour regardless of location during the instructional day.

Night of the Chiefs – Athletic Awards Ceremony

Diefenbaker's Athletic Awards Ceremony, Night of the Chiefs, is on Wednesday June 4 at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Association from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tickets for student athletes are included in team fees at a cost of $48. If you have not paid your team fees yet, please pay on PowerSchool or pay in the Business Office with Ms. Prum. Tickets will be handed out in the last week of May for those who have paid. This is an amazing evening to celebrate all our student athletes and our school teams. Trainers and student managers are welcome to purchase a ticket to join in the celebrations too, please see Ms. Prum in the Business Office.

Class of 2025

This upcoming week we celebrate our Class of 2025! Next week will be a busy week for the whole Dief community: beginning with our afternoon rehearsal for Grade 12 students on Thursday June 5, then celebrating with the Grad Ceremony and Formal Reception on Friday, June 6. The rehearsal will take place in the JGD gym during the two class periods after lunch and is mandatory for all our graduating students. No family or visitors are a part of the rehearsal. There are no classes for any students on Friday June 6 because all staff, our Grade 12 Grads along with Music students will be involved in the festivities of the day!

Graduates who purchased Grad Reception tickets for WinSport for June 6 will need to pick up tickets from Room 121 at lunch on Monday and Tuesday.

IB Update

On Monday, our Biology 20IB classes took a walking field trip to Nose Hill Park. While there, our students completed a quadrat study and visited the glacial erratic. The weather was perfect to enjoy lunch in the sun and appreciate this site of geologic and biological significance.

That’s a wrap on IB exams!

156 of our Diefenbaker students participated in writing their IB exams throughout the month of May. These exams are the cumulation of 2 years of coursework and are a huge achievement for those who complete them. On May 23, we celebrated their completion by awarding 40 students Learner Profile Certificates and indulging in ice cream sundaes! A big congratulations to the 20 students who have successfully completed all of the requirements for their International Baccalaureate Diplomas.  The gold cords they are wearing will also been worn at their Grad on June 6 to recognize their success in completing the full IB Diploma.

Artist Spotlight

The Art 20 & 30 students had the privilege of going on a field trip to the Masters Gallery and Contemporary Calgary this past week.

It was another successful outing, where the students viewed and were inspired by many artists, which even included Warhol and Miró.

The participants were once again great examples of the wonderful young people that we have here at Diefenbaker!

Help Save our JGD Yearbook Program!

We’re reaching out to our school community to let you know that the future of the yearbook program is at a crossroads. Due to low sales in recent years, we are considering whether to continue the program next year (2025-2026). However, your support this year can make a difference!

Purchasing a yearbook this year not only gives students a lasting keepsake of their memories but also helps ensure the yearbook program’s future. The more sales we have this year, the higher the chance we can continue the tradition of the yearbook for years to come.

Order your yearbook today by visiting Jostens Yearbook Purchase.

In addition, we need all parents to fill out the yearbook feedback survey to help guide our decision-making. Your insights and opinions are essential! Please take a few minutes to complete the survey here: Yearbook Feedback Survey.

Thank you for helping us preserve this special part of our school’s history.
