Semester 2 Bell Time Adjustment
Students and parents, based on the feedback from our entire Diefenbaker community of students, parents and staff, we are changing our class bell times for Semester 2, effective Wednesday, January 28, 2026. We are not changing start and end times and no bus times are changing. We are adding five minutes to classes Monday to Thursday and removing the tutorial times that extended classes.

Senior Basketball Tournament at Central
CONGRATULATIONS to the Senior Girls Basketball team on winning the Central Memorial Griffin Classic last weekend. The entire team played exceptionally well with Adeomi O. being named tournament MVP

D2L Shell – Grade 12 Students
A D2L shell has been created to share information and announcements dealing with this year’s graduation. All Grade 12s have been registered in this D2L shell. Grade 12 students are being asked to check in D2L to ensure that they have access to this shell. All graduation information will be shared through this platform. New Calgary Trades and Technologies Collegiate Launches
The new Calgary Trades & Technologies Collegiate (CTTC) provides CBE high school students with hands-on opportunities to explore and experience careers in skilled trades and related technologies.
In partnership with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), this pathway supports:
- Real-world experiences
- Hands-on training
- Direct exposure to industry experts
Interested Grade 10 students can fill out the Expression of Interest form until Friday, Jan. 16.

Phys Ed Locker Cleanout
Please ensure your Phys Ed locker has been cleared and lock returned to your Phys Ed or Sports Performance teacher. All remaining items left in Phys Ed lockers after Thursday will be discarded or donated.

Calgary Transit
Calgary Transit has informed but that some students travelling on our Diefenbaker designated buses have been boarding the bus without valid fare. We would like to remind families that all high school students using Calgary Transit are required to pay fare or carry proof of payment with a transfer or pass.
Ensuring students have their fare or transit pass ready helps support a smooth trip for everyone and maintains a positive relationship with our transit partners. Individuals who fail to provide valid fare on Calgary Transit may be subject to a $250 fine according to municipal bylaw of Calgary number 4M81 section 9(1).
We understand that the cost of transit can be a challenge for some families. If paying for your child’s fare is a financial hardship, the City of Calgary’s Fair Entry program offers reduced‑cost transit passes and other supports for eligible households. More information is available on the City of Calgary website.
Cell Phone Use
John G. Diefenbaker teachers and staff are following Alberta Government’s law regarding cell phones. Teachers only allowed students to be on their phones when it is an integral part of the learning.
Parent please do not text or call your child when they are in their classrooms. Or if you do text or call, please do not expect an immediate response. Students are not allowed to take calls or texts during the learning and if they do, they face consequences. If there is an emergency, please call our main phone number and ask one of the Secretaries to call into the classroom. Parents contacting students during class time has become a concern in our building and we ask for your assistance!
Arrival times and door opening times
All students must be under the supervision of a teacher while in the building. With Basketball practices, Band practices and cold weather, students have been arriving earlier and earlier. Students arriving for teams and classes, should enter the building via the door closest to their activities. The front and mall doors will open for students attending regular classes at 8:00. Please do not drop off or send students to arrive prior to 8:00 am as they will not be let in
Yearbook
Please purchase your yearbook as soon as possible. The last day to order yearbooks is February 15.
