Model UN Conference

At the beginning of December, Model UN students attended a conference at Henry Wise Wood School.  We have one student in Human Rights Council who worked together with a team to negotiate changes for people who were having their rights violated.  She made resolutions, connections with other countries, and presented a working paper!  She was an amazing speaker.

We also have a group of six students representing the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam in a crisis simulation that focused on the negotiations and sensitive issues presented with the South China Seas today.   Lastly, we had three students in the committee entitled Sleeping with the Fishes, which negotiated expansion of their territory and made alliances with other gang members to resolve disputes.  They had fun dressing up, meeting other students from other schools, and changing the maps within Chicago in the early 1930s.  As a Teacher Sponsor, Ms Ibbotson is impressed with the personal and group dedication of our students in our Model UN Club and the clear ability to think on the spot and argue for those who might be less fortunate in this world.  We will continue building relationships, negotiating and discussing world topics in the New Year.  We are welcoming new delegates!
