Dear Diefenbaker Community
As I sit down to write this and reflect that Another event filled year at John G Diefenbaker High School is coming to a close. This time of year brings both excitement and trepidation as relationships may be ending for people moving on to other adventures and the unknown of what is to come next for the summer and next year.
To our staff and all our wonderful students moving on to new adventures, I wish you all the best of luck!
To JGD’s Graduating Class of 2024 and their family, friends and other caregivers who supported them along the way, congratulations on your accomplishment! The next chapter of your life will be an exciting one; no matter what it holds for you. I am confident the skills, knowledge and resiliency you have gained from your time at Dief will serve you well into your future.
For the upcoming Graduating Class of 2025, I encourage you to make this year your best year yet. As leaders of our school you will be highly influential on how the year goes for the entire students body and I know the school is in good hands with our new grade twelve class.
To our new Grade Eleven Class of 2025, in your second year at Diefenbaker, please take advantage of all the things you wish you had done in Grade Ten! Why not join a club or join a team during this upcoming year?! As well, now is the time to focus on your academic success to ensure you have all opportunities open to you in the future.
And finally, to our new Grade Ten Class of 2025, welcome to the best high school in Calgary. You have so many opportunities available to you and I strongly encourage you to take advantage of them all. We hope you’ll join at least one of our many sports team and/or become part of our numerous club that peaks your interest. I hope that you’ll feel safe enough to take the risk to make new friends and enjoy new experiences.
For the 2024 – 25 school year, we will see some changes. We will have fewer students and fewer teachers than in past years. One thing that will remain constant is what we expect from all members of our JGD community. John G. Diefenbaker School will continue to be the welcoming space where everyone is free to express who they are while not offending or encroaching on the rights of others. We will continue to hold high expectations for all our students in everything we do. Our team outstanding teachers and support staff will encourage and support our JGD students to be the best they can be in Academics , Fine and Performing Arts, Athletics and as global citizens in our school.
My best wishes for you during this summer holiday.
