Artist Spotlight
This week some of the Art 20, 30, LITA and Advanced students had the opportunity to go on gallery tours of the Masters Gallery, Contemporary Calgary and the Alberta University of the Arts. Thank you to the Masters Gallery for providing transportation for this awesome opportunity!
It was a great day in which the students saw and learned about the work of many notable artists. It started with Joane Cardinal-Schubert, Michael Corner and Joe Fafard at the Masters Gallery, Star Crop Eared Wolf, Jennifer Marman and Daniel Borins at Contemporary Calgary, and the day was completed with many up and coming artists at the Alberta University of the Arts.
The students were upstanding ambassadors of Diefenbaker and a great experience was had by all. We are excited to continue to offer these experiences in the upcoming semesters and have our next tour planned for early September of next school year.
Alberta University of the Arts hosts a high-school student AuArts ShowOff! Competition & Exhibition every year, and this year, four Diefenbaker students won the opportunity to be in the show. It is a great honour just to be chosen, as artists apply from all across the country and only 83 were selected overall, but they also have the chance to win various prizes that are up for grabs - worth more than $11,000.
We will be rooting for them all, but we are so proud of our four students already!
